An opportunity to get close to the locals in the hidden parts of the city, avoiding the beaten tracks or fully packed tourist sites. You will be immersed in the local culture as we make our way through the hustle and bustle of narrow alleyways surrounded by the buzzing of vehicles and yelling of street vendors, and when you are standing in front of spectacular temples steeped in history, you will feel the pulse and the cultural profundity of the city!

Your tour guide will greet you in an easy-to-find location downtown where the tour will begin!

Our route takes us through narrow back alleys to a main street flanked by stores and food stands. You will get a chance to see how these foods are prepared right on the spot, and the opportunity to savour some small samples of local delicacies. We will move on to a public park, in which seniors from the neighboring areas gather for salubrious morning exercises! They engage in dancing, singing and even Tai Chi Boxing! As possibly the only foreigners in the park you will be seen as quite special and enthusiastically welcomed to join them in their activities!

After a short local interaction in the park, we will walk to the morning market nearby! It adjoins an old community and is always bustling with people. Booths lining the sides of these serpentine walkways are sorted with various goods from soup to nuts! Your visit to this fascinating area will be enriched when you smile and greet the locals with “Ni hao” (hello) and they respond with beaming friendliness! It is such a great place for a visitor to catch a glimpse of the local’s authentic lifestyle! We will also get a chance to see ancient traditional cricket fighting demonstrated by a local family!

After watching the cricket fighting we will get a tea stop, then will keep winding through the zigzag lanes to a grand mosque with a history dating back 1300 years. Here you can immerse yourself in the history of the Muslims and their life in China.

A short walk to the other side of the Muslim quarter will take us to another Temple of popular folk religion. Next to a residential shanty area with quaint aromas it is a main religious site for the local Chinese to pray for good luck. The temple is tranquil and looks spectacular with its ancient Chinese architectural style and small souvenir market! Strolling through the one-man-width back streets around the temple and seeing the decrepit yet neat buildings on your sides will give you a unique view of the history!
